It Must be Almost Christmas!

Well, here we are a week closer to Christmas!

We will be reviewing previous vocabulary words this week. We won't have any new words until after Christmas.

We have finished up working on "u" and will be working on "z" in phonics. We will talk about how when you hear a /z/ sound at the beginning of a word we write a "z" but when you hear it in the middle or end of a word (such as "is") we write an "s." At the end of the week we start working on "c" and will finish it up next week. "C" should be easy since we did it in reading already. When we did "k" we talked about how when you hear a /k/ sound, if the next letter is an "e," "i," or "y" you use a "k," but if the next letter is any other letter, you use a "c." We also are learning how a "k" only says /k/ but a "c" says /k/ and /s/. If an "e," "i," or "y" comes after a "c," the "c" says /s/.

In math we are comparing things that are larger or smaller, and continuing working on numbers 1-10.

In writing we finished up writing and illustrating Santa Sees. This week we will be writing, It Must be Almost Christmas.

Just 2 1/2 Weeks!

Wow, just 2 1/2 weeks until Christmas vacation! I can't believe how far into the year we are! In another week we are having our mid-year Dibels reading test and our Core Phonics Survey test. It will be good to see how our children are improving!

In Phonics we are studying "b" and will soon do "u." The "u" will be our fourth vowel! Every vowel greatly expands the words we can read!

In Math we are comparing numbers and talking about "fewer," "less," and "more." We are also counting objects 0-10 and counting two groups of objects and finding out how many there are altogether.

Last week in vocabulary we learned hefty, mischievous, track, observe, and ancient. This week we will be learning discouraged, extraordinary, hesitate, respect, and desire.
