I know I haven't written for a LONG, LONG time on this blog. Once the school year gets really rolling there just isn't as much to tell you.
At this point your child should know all the letter names and sounds (both lower-case and capital). Your child should be able to read some of the easy "I Can Read" books that you can check out of the library. What your child needs most is to practice reading, reading, reading books.
I know you can check out the "Reading For All Learner" books from the library. The problem with this is that when the students get to the point where they are reading them here at school they get tested and the group is placed where most of the kids fall. Often kids have read the books from the library and they and their parents get frustrated that they cannot just keep going, but just because they read the books doesn't mean they can pass the tests with fidelity. Reading real books is really better for them to build their skills.
In math we are doing things with the numbers 0-12. We will soon be working on 0-20. By the end of kindergarten your child needs to be able to count from 0-20 and recognize the corresponding numerals. This week we will start working on sets and finding which sets are larger, smaller, or the same as another set.
I titled this blog, "Last Blog?" because Google Blog is changing things starting March 1st. I am not sure just how different it really will be. If it is not easy to figure this out then I may not be blogging again. I know some teachers have set up things on Facebook, but I don't belong to Facebook (nor have a desire to belong) so I can't do that. Feel free to talk with me if you have any questions.
Ms. Rice, I would love to help you! If you ever want to email me an update you would like on your classes progress, I could start a facebook group for it. Just an offer :) Venessa Pixton (CJ's Mom)
