Finally, an update!

I am sorry I haven't written another blog yet but I guess I had covered everything in my opening blog for the first two weeks. Anyway....here goes with an update...at last!

You have GREAT children! I love all their great personalities and huge potential for learning! I think it is going to be a great year! I know it is hard to sit and listen when the first five years of life there hasn't been a lot of that, but the children are making huge progress!

This coming week in phonics we will continue to practice l, do more lessons on o, and learn about g. We can sound out all three sounds and make the word "log." In our reading groups we have learned m, a, u, f, n and s. I overheard one student in a group say, "That's fun!" I thought he was commenting on the lesson but he was reading the word, "fun." :-)

In math we have worked a lot on the numbers 1 and 2. Recognizing them and counting objects are easy, but writing the two is much harder so we need to practice more. We will be working on the number 3, sorting objects into color and size, and comparing things that are the same and different/not the same.

Our vocabulary words (with the definitions I will teach) are comforting (Something comforting makes you feel better when you are sad or afraid.), fleet (A person or animal that is fleet moves fast.), glimmer (To glimmer is to shine or twinkle softly.), expression (Your expression is the look on your face that shows what you are feeling.), and lively (Someone or something that is lively is full of life.).

Homework should be in your child's folder on Monday. Some students have forgotten to bring their blue folders. Be sure your child brings his/her folder every day. Also, some students have left his/her folder here by accident. If you can't find it, it may be at school.

It should be another exciting week of learning!
