Pumpkins, Pumpkins, We Love Pumpkins

For Science we are studying plants and plant parts by reading books about pumpkins. In math we are working on numbers 0-10. So, we combined the two and drew pictures of plants and counted the parts (stems, flowers, roots, and pumpkins) and then we graphed the results. These wonderful science/math/art works are hanging in the hallway. Be sure to stop by and look at them.

We are also writing an informational essay on what we've learned about pumpkins. As part of this we watched "A Season for a Pumpkin" a film by Chris Aubin. It is a YouTube time-lapse video of a pumpkin plant growing. It is pretty neat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJGJiAKS90M&feature=related

Another fun video is "Five Little Pumpkins" which we will watch tomorrow.

In Phonics we are working on the letter "i." Be sure to have your child read all the words on the Phonics page each day.
