Only six more weeks and your children will be first graders! I can't believe how quickly this year has flown by.
In Phonics we are working on /ch./ Last week we worked on the long vowel sounds with the silent final "e." The week before that we did /oo/ as in hook, and /oo/ as in tooth.
In Math we are working on numbers 20-30. If your child still struggles with 10-20 he/she needs to work on learning those numbers really well so that he/she understands 20-30 better.
We are also working hard to learn the days of the week. Many of the students know them but there are many who do not. We say them a lot as a group but it is much harder when you get tested on them all by yourself. Your children also need to know how many days are in a week. Please, ask your child these things to see if he/she knows them.
Last week we had our final DIBELS reading test. This week we will have our handwriting test on Wednesday and our final Core Phonics Survey test on Friday. The Core Phonics Test is done by our reading aides and is an overall test of how well your child knows sounds and reads short words.
